Garnier Micellar Cleansing Water for sensitive skin

The past months I've discovered a lot of great beauty products from the drugstore. Surprisingly, only one of them is skincare. I've always preferred micellar water over balms or oils because I find it's the quickest and easiest way to remove makeup before going in with a cleanser - in my case: a cleansing milk/gel. So when I'd finished a bottle of Diadermine (great stuff too!) I ended up in the Garnier aisle, where their Micellar Cleansing Water, a product that many a blogger has confessed their love to in the past year, landed in my shopping basket.

Hundreds of beauty lovers have compared the Garnier Micellar Cleansing Water to the cult favourite Sensibio H2O Micellar Solution by French pharmacy brand Bioderma. I've never used the latter, but the description for both products is similar: effectively removes makeup, hydrates and refreshes the skin, suitable for all skin types but most importantly it's also gentle on sensitive skin. Plus, both options are fragrance, alcohol and paraben free. Not a must for me, but I like when skincare products don't contain harsh ingredients that could potentially cause irritation or inflammation to my skin. At half the price, Garnier offers a pocket-friendly alternative to Bioderma, which I think everyone appreciates.

Ingredients (Garnier Micellar Cleansing Water for sensitive skin): aqua/water, hexylene glycol, glycerin, disodium cocoamphodiacetate, disodium edta, poloxamer 184, polyaminopropyl biguanide

What I like so much about the Micellar Cleansing Water is that it feels as if I would be washing my face with regular water. It doesn't need rinsing off or leave a greasy residue. It dissolves makeup easily without irritating or drying out my skin. The micellar solution is gentle enough to be used on the eyes, though getting rid of mascara takes a bit longer than if you'd be using something like an oil-based makeup remover. I always drench a cotton pad with the product and place it on my eyes for about 20 seconds to break down any stubborn (waterproof) mascara. This gives a nice cooling effect too - I can truly enjoy this little moment, especially after a long day.

Garnier made a smart move by taking their version of micellar water to the market. The Micellar Cleansing Water is a great option for when you want something that will remove makeup, oil and dirt from your skin with one swipe (don't forget to use a regular facial cleanser afterwards to assure everything's gone!). It's designed for sensitive skin, so this might be for you if your skin is intolerant to scrubbing or harsh ingredients. Not to mention it's a bargain! Eight months after buying I'm finally about to finish my first bottle. Phew... I'm hooked.

What kind of makeup remover do you use?

  1. I can't believe I STILL haven't tried this one... Does this make me a bad beauty blogger?

  2. Definitely my favorite too!! I've tried a couple of Micellar Waters but they couldn't beat this one by far. And like you mention, the price is more than okay and you can really use this for months. #sharingthelove ^^

  3. Hey Lys, I've heard great things about this one! I have a bit of an over-supply when it comes to micellar water here. If I manage to use it all up, I'll look into it! I like micellar water as a first cleanse, then I use a cleansing balm (the Clinique one is awesome) and a cleansing milk. That's when I wear makeup tho! When I don't, I don't tend to triple-cleanse :)

  4. Whoa triple-cleansing, that's dedication! Everyone seems to love that Clinique balm (you meant the Take The Day Off one, right?). I've wanted to try it too, but I think it might be a bit too harsh for my skin. Now I'm curious to see which micellar waters you have been using, by the way! :)

  6. Yes it's Take The Day Off Cleansing Balm! I think it's more gentle than most cleansing oils, if that's any reference :) I just finished a bottle of Bioderma Hydrabio (I prefer Sensibio because it's unscented), and now I'm using the Filorga one. It's also pretty good!

  7. As much as I like this micellar water, I'm kinda skeptical that it can get everything off, so I usually reserve it for eye makeup or days when I'm wearing less makeup. These days, I use The Body Shop's cleansing balm because I ran out of wipes (I use those on lazy days) and I'm too cheap to buy a new packet LOL ;-;

  8. Me too! I don't believe ANY micellar water can take off all makeup :o (I should probs change that in the text so it's clear what I meant) I always use a 'regular' facial cleanser afterwards anyway. If I didn't use this, I'd probably wash my face twice with that cleanser just to make sure the makeup is gone + my skin is thoroughly cleansed. Not too excited about the fact that it'd take longer though (lazy girl foreverrr)

  9. I also own a bottle of the Garnier Micellar Water but I still prefer oil to remove my make up. But from time to time I like to use the water, especially on hot days when my face needs a little pick me up. The only problem I have with this, I feel like it smells after you've applied it to the face. So I always have to wash my face afterwards because I don't like to smell like moss. Do you have the same problem? Or am I just weird haha

  10. Hmm, I always wash my face with another product afterwards so I haven't really paid attention to the scent!
